Many of the stars are interviewed as well, like Ingrid Bergman, Gregory Peck & even Alfred Hitchcock appears!

18977 That’s Entertainment! B+ £350 (4x600’) Cracking Derann print, with fine colour (and B/W) and sound of this 1974 M.G.M. feast for lovers of the great M.G.M. musical movies and their stars. We see many clips from the back catalogue of great movies from the late 1920’s to the 1950’s, we are guided down memory lane by some of the stars themselves like Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Judy Garland’s daughter Liza Minnelli, too many films to really list, but “Singin’ in the Rain”, “The Wizard of Oz” etc. are all here!

18785 The Adventures of Captain Marvel B+/B £240 (12x400’) Rare complete serial from 1941 starring Tom Tyler as “Captain Marvel”, as a young boy he is given the task to protect a magic talisman from being used for evil, all he has to say is “Shazam!” to turn into an adult super hero

18798 Reign of Terror B+ £90 (5x400’) F/L print of this 1949 costume drama set in the French revolution, ‘Robespierre’ has lost his black book which has a list of names marked for death by Guillotine, but if it got into the wrong hands, things might turn out very different

18815 Bonnie Scotland B+ £180 (3x600’) One of the rarest Laurel & Hardy comedy features, here presented F/L on B/W stock, it was made in 1935, Stan & Ollie make there way to Scotland thinking Stan was going to get a big inheritance, which turns out to be an old set of Bagpipes and a snuff box. The boys are tricked into enlisting in the British Army and are sent to India, is India really ready for Laurel & Hardy, brilliantly funny and inventive!

18915 Check and Double Check B+ £90 (4x400’) OB Now here is a film I doubt you will find anywhere else but on 8mm, it was made in 1930, and is a spinoff of the popular radio program of the time “Amos ‘N’ Andy” about two wisecracking Black men who get into all kinds of scrapes, which while fine on the radio, in real life the actors portraying them (Freeman F. Godden & Charles J. Correll) were in reality  white men, now this being 1930 they just wore Blackface like the old minstrel shows, the story has the boys trying to start up a Taxi business, where they get caught up in a society hassle involving driving musicians to a swanky party. This was the only big screen appearance of the radio stars, it’s actually quite funny in places, once you get over the shock how the leads are portrayed! Niles Films import!

19665 Band Waggon B+ £140 (3x600’) Made during WW2 (1940) this comedy stars Arthur (Big Hearted) Askey, Richard Murdoch and Jack Hylton and His Boys, Arthur and Richard are evicted from the roof of Broadcasting House in London and move to Droon Castle in Surrey where unexpectedly they find television broadcasting equipment being used by Nazi spies, so what do they do, well put on a show of course! This was a spin off from the popular wartime radio show that ran on the BBC

19740 Sons of the Desert B+ £140 (4x400’) Really nice imported F/L Blackhawk Films print of this classic 1933 Laurel & Hardy comedy, the Boys tell their wives that Ollie needs a sea Cruise for his health when in reality they want to attend a lodge convention, all goes well until the ship they were supposed to be on sinks, the wives think they may be dead, but when a trip to the movies they see Stan & Ollie having been filmed while at the convention, I guess they wish they were really dead!

19787 The Happiest Days of your Life B+ £120 (5x400’) Fine Powell Films print of this classic 1950 British comedy starring Alastair Sims and Margaret Rutherford. Due to wartime restriction’s an all-boys school has been told that they have to merge with another school, which just happens to be an all-girls school, some brilliantly timed comedic moments

19841 Gasbags B+ £100 (4x400’) Made at the height of WW2 (1941) it stars the Crazy Gang and Will Hay stalwart Moore Marriott, the Crazy Gang accidentally invades Germany in a hot air balloon, but ill Germany ever be the same again, very nostalgic, nice print too!

18966 The Dude Bandit B+ £90 (4x400’) Ultra rare Jef Films import of this 1933 Western starring Hoot Gibson, when an unscrupulous money lender kills someone and makes it look like suicide, Hoot goes undercover to find out the truth, by day he’s seen as a coward, but by night he’s ‘The Dude Bandit’ who begins to be a thorn in his side

The story concerns a con man (Chaplin) who convinces a naïve young girl to marry him and take all her father’s fortune with them, in the City Tillie gets drunk and thrown in Jail & Charlie runs off with his old girlfriend, will it all end happily or will the conman get conned his self!

18612 Redneck B+ £45 (600’) Pretty good colour to 1973 crime thriller with Franco Nero & Telly Savalas, a heist goes wrong, turns into a kidnapping, well edited from Iver Films

Films digest of the 1974 thriller based upon an Alistair Maclean book, it stars Charlotte Rampling and David Birney who are hired to escort a scientist to New York, but other people want him too, it has pretty good colour, typical 1970’s colour palette

19357 Laurel & Hardy – Our Relations B+ £140 (4x400’) OB Rare Blackhawk Films F/L Laurel & Hardy feature from 1936, two sets of long lost identical twin brothers cause mayhem, Stan & Ollie’s long lost Brothers Alfie & Bert are Sailors on shore leave, they are carrying a valuable Pearl entrusted to them by their Captain, gangsters get wind of this, then the fun starts as multiple mistaken identities lead to mayhem galore, it’s just brilliant!

19375 Nightmare in Wax B+ £120 (4x400’) Extremely rare colour edition, which boasts really nice colours of this 1969 horror movie starring Cameron Mitchell. A disfigured curator of a Wax Museum murders his enemies and the uses their bodies as exhibits!

19376 Warlords of Atlantis B+ £140 (4x400’) Iver Film Services excellent feature print of this 1978 sci-fi fantasy starring Doug McClure & Peter Gilmore, it’s still a pretty good print overall, now this does not come up very often these days!

19377 The Restless Breed B/B+ £45 (4x400’) This print has only fair colour, but very watchable, this is a 1957 revenge western starring Scott Brady and a young Anne Bancroft, a young lawyer goes to a Texas town to find and kill the people who murdered his Father

19379 Saturday Night Fever B/B+ £70 (3x400’) Cracking Marketing Films feature digest, which still has pretty good colour, it stars of course John Travolta and the magnificent Bee Gees songs, this edition is getting pretty rare these days!

19380 Strange Report: Shrapnel B+ £75 (3x400’) This is actually a new print, as I had to break the paper seal over the middle to try out part 1, colour is still quite good. Anthony Quayle stars as Professor Adam Strange who is called in when a piece of shrapnel in a dead man’s body reaches out to a mystery from the past

19384 Laurel & Hardy – The Flying Deuces B+/B £85 (3x400’) Ollie has fallen in love with an Innkeeper’s daughter, sadly she is only in love with her Husband, once rejected he decides to enlist in The Foreign Legion to forget (Stan has to come along as well, of course), but soon finds out that the commander is the Husband of his lost love, Oh Dear!

19385 Laurel & Hardy – Way Out West B+ £85 (2x600’) This is actually a Derann re-print on colour stock, it has a very light blue tint, but I quite liked it like that (this was originally my own print!), this is the L&H classic set in the old west, made in 1937, the boys are travelling to meet a deceased friends daughter to give her a deed to a valuable Gold Mine, the trouble is, all they have is a name, and when the cunning owner of a bar (the great James Finlayson) hears about it, skullduggery is afoot, he poses his girlfriend as the girl, and unfortunately when they do find out the deception, the deed is whisked into a Safe, can the boys get it back to give to the right girl, well you guess (if you have never seen it before)

19386 The Elstree Story B+ £75 (3x400’) OB Made in 1952 Richard Todd looks back of 25 years of film production at the studios, with over 40 clips from some of the great films, directors and stars that have worked at the studios, there’s even a clip from the first all sound British talkie ever shown, Hitchcock’s “Blackmail”, it’s a cracking watch for any film fan!

19383 The Nude Bomb B+ £60 (2x400’) OB Very rare U8 double album, which still has good colour, this comedy stars Don Adams & Sylvia Kristel (with most of her clothes on, for a change), “Get Smart’s” Agent 86 is called out of retirement to fight a villain who has created a bomb that would that destroys all clothing, can he catch the criminal in time

B+ £85 (2x400’) OB Rare F/L Blackhawk Films edition of this 1931 L&H comedy classic, the boys are supposed to be going on vacation with their wives, when a fellow lodge member rings to tell them a surprise stag party is being held in their honour, so Ollie feigns a migraine and insists on the wives going on ahead, but when the wives miss the last train and go home, lets say they are not happy, shotguns are involved!

 

 

 

 

 

19353 Laurel & Hardy - Oliver the Eighth B+ £85 (2x400’) OB Rare F/L Blackhawk Films edition of this 1934 L&H comedy classic, lonely Barber shop owners Stan & Ollie see a personal ad from a rich widow, they both reply (well Stan thinks he has, Ollie hides his letter), when Ollie gets a proposal of marriage, Stan finds out about the deception and insists on going along as well, just as they arrive a creepy Butler informs Ollie that she is crazy as many years earlier she was jilted by another Oliver, and says that the last 7 Oliver’s all came to a sticky end by having their throats cut, what can the boy’s do!

19354 Laurel & Hardy – The Laurel & Hardy Murder Case B+ £85 (2x400’) OB Rare F/L Blackhawk Films edition of this 1930 L&H comedy classic, Ollie reads in a newspaper an advert asking for relatives of the Millionaire Ebeneezer Laurel could get a portion of his estate, Stan has no idea if he is related, but Ollie decides to pass him off as one of the heirs, the trouble is the Police think the old man was murdered, and now Stan could be a suspect!

19355 Laurel & Hardy – Chickens Come Home B+ £85 (2x400’) OB Rare F/L Blackhawk Films edition of this 1931 L&H comedy classic, Ollie is running for Mayor, when an old flame shows up to Blackmail him with an old naughty photograph, unfortunately for Ollie Stan attempts to help extradite him from his problem, which only makes things, much, much worse for the both of them when Stan’s shrewish wife finds out and comes at him with an axe!

19356 Hollywood and the Stars: The Immortal Jolson B+/B £55 (2x400’) Joseph Cotton narrates this documentary, with many clips from his films, of the life story of one of the biggest stars of the early part of the Twentieth Century

19341 The Next Picture Show B+/B £35 Perry’s Movies release on colour stock, B/W is fine although there is a small green line near the left of the picture, does not distract from the film. This is a documentary by Wilf Watters on the early days of cinema and the early studios

19387 Laurel & Hardy – The Music Box B+ £85 (600’) Rare F/L Blackhawk Films edition of this 1932 L&H comedy classic. The boys are delivery men who are entrusted in delivering a large crated piano up some stunningly steep and very many stairs, just brilliant all round!

19359 Laurel & Hardy – The Fixer Uppers B+ £45 OB Rare F/L Blackhawk L&H comedy, door to door Christmas card salesmen try to help out a neglected wife by faking a romance between Ollie & herself, but things go awry when the husband challenges Ollie to a Duel!

19360 Laurel & Hardy – Busy Bodies B+ £45 OB Rare Blackhawk L&H comedy from 1933, the boys work in a sawmill, where they do battle with there tools, each other, where Ollie always seems to come out the wrong end, and finally a giant chainsaw!

19362 Laurel & Hardy – Hog Wild B+ £45 OB Rare Blackhawk L&H comedy from 1930, Ollie can’t find his glasses (which are on his head!) then he’s ordered to erect a new Radio antenna, that’s when Stan comes to visit, it never gets any better for poor old Ollie!

Walton print of this 1932 L&H comedy, the boys have had a messy party while the wives are away, Ollie asks for Stan’s help to clean up (silly man!), the trouble is the place is in a worse mess after Stan’s help!

19381 Lights Out…And the Stars Appear B+ £30 OB Here’s a fine documentary that looks at the history of the film gauge 9.5mm. produced for group 9.5 for the Golden Anniversary in 1972, it even has Michael Bentine narrating it, released by Buckingham Movie Museum

19026 No Sail B+ £35 OB Rare sound edition with good colour of 1945 Disney Donald Duck & Goofy cartoon, the boys rent a sailboat, which is unusual in that you have to put a Nicle in and the sail comes out, but after a while the sail goes back in, they then run out of Nickles!

19027 Woodland Café B+ £40 Derann print of this classic 1937 Disney silly symphony cartoon, Insects gather at a night Café to watch an Apache dance act & a Jazz Band

19028 Hawaiian Holiday B+ £30 This is actually a German Piccolo print, which has an English title card inserted as well as put back into English sound, this is a cracking 1937 Disney cartoon, as Mickey, Donald, Goofy & Pluto vacation in exotic Hawaii

19029 A Rainy Day with the Bear Family B+ £40 Really nice print released by Classic Home Cinema of this 1940 M.G.M. ‘Barney Bear’ cartoon, Mrs. Bear persuades her reluctant Husband (Barney) to fix the leaking roof, but it does not go well, at all!

19030 Thru the Mirror B+ £40 OB Fine Derann print of this 1936 Disney Mickey Mouse, Mickey falls asleep while reading “Through the Looking Glass, and what Alice Found There”, he finds himself on the other side of the Mirror, where everything is strange!

19031 Look at Life: Booming Good Wishes B+ £25 Nice colour (I think it’s a Derann print) on this 1967 LAL, which looks at the booming gift card business in the 1960’s
